🇵🇦 Panama – Improving Care for Children and Parents with HIV

Why This Project Matters

Families living with HIV face stigma, poor health outcomes, and high electricity costs from air conditioning and mosquito prevention. HIV medication side effects increase risks of heart issues, making proper nutrition and healthcare critical. Yet shelters operate with minimal resources, forced to choose between paying energy bills or improving diets and treatments.

The Challenge

High electricity bills drain funds away from nutrition and healthcare. Meanwhile, mosquito-borne diseases increase vulnerability for children and parents living with HIV.

Proposed Solution

  • Design and install solar-powered air conditioning for medical dormitories.

  • Implement a solar mosquito repellent system tailored to the shelter environment.

  • Reduce energy costs so that funds can be redirected to healthy meals and essential treatment.

Impact

  • Lower energy costs mean more nutritious diets and improved healthcare access.

  • Safer, healthier, and more dignified living environment for children and their parents.

  • Prevention of premature deaths through improved care and protection.

  • Long-term sustainability through renewable energy solutions.
